It’s something of a rarity these days for a rock band to stay together with the same lineup for nearly two decades, but Montreal-based Simple Plan have done just that. Formed in 1999 as a bunch of high-school friends jamming, the group have since taken the world by storm with their unique pop-punk sound and their energetic stage shows. Their first album came out in 2002 and since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength. They’ve played at an Olympics Closing Ceremony and the 2016 NHL Winter classic, as well as featuring in an Olson Twins movie. Despite all of this, they still find time to run the Simple Fan Foundation, a charity that has raised hundreds of thousands to help troubled teens. To call these hard-working Canadians multi-talented is probably still something of an understatement. Their debut album No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls, was met with critical acclaim upon its 2002 release and spawned the hit single Addicted, which is still one of their most successful records to date. They followed this up with 2004’s Still not Getting Any, a Bob Rock produced album that featured Shut Up, the emotive ballad Untitled (How Could This Happen to me?) and their first Canadian number one Welcome to My Life. The band rebooted their sound with a 2007 eponymous album and then hit number two in Canada for the third time in a row with their fourth release Get Your Heart On. The inclusion of guest appearances from big names Natasha Beddingfield and Rivers Cuomo lent some credence here; their inclusion helped paved the way for another high selling album. The band’s latest album, Taking One for the Team, came out in February 2016, accompanied by a collaboration with Nelly for the single I Don’t Wanna Go to Bed.
